THE JOINT SERVICE CLUBS OF GREATER SIERRA VISTA
The Joint Service Clubs of Greater Sierra Vista (JSCGSV) met on November 7, 2008 at the VFW building. The organization is comprised of 63 non-profit clubs.

The following information items was provided by the various clubs.

1. The Sierra Vista Community Chorus will perform their Christmas concert at 7 pm, December 12, 2008 at the Buena Performing Arts Center. Admission is free but attendees are requested to bring an unwrapped gift for a child.

2. The "Holiday Tour of Homes" on Fort Huachuca will be held December 7, 2008 from 1-5 pm. Tickets may be purchased ahead of time (Safeway, Western Spur Wear, Ft Huachuca Museum Gift Shop and chorus members) for $10. Tickets purchased at the event will be $12. The tour consists of visits to the old homes opposite the old Parade Ground. The host families decorate their homes, many in the traditions of the 1900s. It is a very worth while tour.

3. The Soldier’s Fallen Cross Memorial is continuing to collect donations. The Memorial consists of 2 combat boots. Each boot has a rifle inside with a combat helmet on top of the rifle. The memorial is made of bronze and will be place in the Veterans Cemetery.

4. The sale of the "Buddy Poppy " began Saturday, November7. Volunteers will be asking dor donations.

5. The VA is sponsoring a study program called "Earn while you Learn." All VA eligible veterans may participate. Contact: www.azdvs.gov or savmc@azdvs.gov for more information.

6. The City of Sierra Vista Tree Lightening ceremony will be held in Veteran’s Memorial Park on December 5 at dusk (about 5).

7. The Sierra Vista Christmas Parade will be held on December 6, 2008. It will be an evening parade and begin 5 pm. It is a festival of lights.

8. Registration for the next semester at Cochise College will be shut down on December 15 due to construction. Students are requested to register early.

9. There is currently in progress a drive to collect "Coats for Kids." Coats (new or gently used) are for boys and girls thru ages 17. Donations of coats, sweater and gloves may be taken to: Buz Breads, REMAX building, Landmark Café and the American Legion. The drive will end November 24.

9. The " Stocking Stuffer Program" has begun. Individuals or groups may "adopt" a child or a family. The adoption consists of providing Christmas gifts for the adoptee. If interested, contact Dee at 249-4806 and make your selection.
